Blending Food for Tube Feeding

We are now at 20 months of tube feeding with Miss Elizabeth.  Every day is a juggle to figure out exactly what she needs to grow and reduce vomiting episodes.  Here is her current  blend–

Elizabeth gets about 900 calories/day right now because we are trying to make up for lost weight that’s occurred over the last couple months of constant illness and antibiotics. She had surgery to place ear tubes at the end of January and the anesthesia and/or versad she received TANKED her system and we had a big increase in reflux and vomiting with accompanying weight loss. It appears that we have reversed that now and she is on the upward swing with weight gain again.

There are a couple ways we can get 900 calories into Elizabeth each day while avoiding traditional enteral formulas.

1). 100% home blend

2). Home blend plus Nourish

3). 100% Nourish

4. 100% Nourish plus healthier oil/sugars

With all options, we add supplements to meet Elizabeth’s individual nutritional needs.

Option ONE-

We do TWO different blends each day- a morning blend and an afternoon blend.  We base these blends off a “skeleton blend” which gives the quantity of each food group a one year should consume each day and then we add fats/healthier sugars to reach our calorie goal.

Breakfast Blend

  • 1 cup whole (raw) goat milk
  • 1 medium banana
  • 1/4 cup organic infant rice
  • 1/4 cup organic frozen blueberries
  • 1 TBS grassfed collagen (we use Great Lakes)
  • 1 TBS coconut oil (or coconut based MCT)

Dinner Blend
